It is with great sadness that we let all of you know on Monday, March 19, 2012 Grits Café suffered a tragic fire, causing it to be burned to the ground. While working through our grief and loss, the entire Grits team is focused on doing whatever must be done so we can rebuild and reopen even stronger, as quickly as possible.
We are overwhelmed with the flooding in of condolences and offers for support. We sincerely appreciate all of our guests’ loyalty and think of so many of you as family. We look forward to being able to share our love for great food and hospitality with all of you very soon, and will keep the website updated with our progress towards the reopening of Grits Café.

Hello to all our valued guests, friends and family,
As we navigate through the first steps of recovery after the tragic fire on March 19, 2012 which burned our beloved Grits Café to the ground, we’d like to thank all those who have reached out and offered so much support to us.
Many have graciously asked what they can do to help, and in response to that, some dear friends and colleagues have opened an account at Monroe County Bank on the restaurant’s behalf. The account has been named “Friends to Rebuild Grits Café” and donations may be made in person or mailed to Monroe County Bank, 1 East Main Street, Forsyth, GA 31029.
We sincerely appreciate your caring and willingness to lend a hand during our time of overwhelming loss. We will keep you updated as we move forward with the rebuilding of Grits Café at her original home of 17 West Johnston Street, Forsyth, GA.
Warm regards,
Terri and Wayne Wetendorf

Hello to all our loyal guests, friends and family,
Finally! The insurance company has completed their assessment and our building, affectionately known as Grits Café, has been released back to us. Let the clean up begin! We hope to start demolition next week, and are excited about being one step closer to rebuilding and reopening!
Our generous neighbors, The Rose Theatre and The Backlot Players have graciously offered to host a benefit for the employees of Grits Café on Thursday, April 26, 2012. Please visit the Special Events page on our website www.gritscafe.com for more details.
Thank you again for everyone’s wonderful caring, encouragement and support during this very challenging time for our Grits Café family.
Warm regards,
Terri and Wayne Wetendorf

Hello to all out loyal guests, friends and family,
Wayne and I are ecstatic to report that construction of the new Grits Café has officially started!
There have been tons of questions from our valued followers as to why things are taking so long, so here it is from "the horse's mouth". Building a commercial space from scratch is an enormously complicated project. To satisfy all public safety, ADA and building codes, as well as design a beautiful, efficient and functional restaurant, has required intense coordination amongst our team of architects, designers, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers.
The recruitment process for our general contractor required several weeks of interviews and bidding from 2 Atlanta contractors and 2 local contractors, in an effort to choose the best fit for Grits Café. We have engaged Dell Construction, who have enthusiastically joined our team and are committed to our aggressive building schedule to get Grits Cafe back on the map as quickly as possible. Our projected reopening is for January 2013!
Please stay tuned for information on our next "Friends to Rebuild Grits Café" event, as we get closer to the holidays.
Thank you for your ongoing caring, encouragement and support over the past very challenging six months. We sincerely couldn’t have done it without you!
Warm regards,
Terri and Wayne Wetendorf,
